Our Story

A Family Rooted in Faith

First Fruits began with a humble container garden in our Brackenfell backyard, a fun yet daunting experiment in growing our own food. That first mediocre harvest proved surprisingly rewarding, and before long, every square meter of our garden overflowed with crops. During the pandemic, we became serious about both our garden and our faith. Then one day in church, the Holy Spirit prompted me to start a business: "Frankincense, Myrrh and Barley." Puzzled - it was never barley, it was gold! I researched for months until I discovered barley's biblical significance. It was a first fruit, the first offering the Israelites tithed, ripening and harvested before all others. This connected beautifully to Christ himself as a kind of First Fruit, alongside those kingly gifts, and our business name was born: First Fruits.

What started as preserving food for our family, experimenting with chilli sauces and pesto’s, became our product line when I realised: sell what you’re already doing. Today, we’re a small urban homestead in the heart of Brackenfell, Cape Town, dedicated to wholesome, handcrafted products created with prayer and purpose.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to provide locally-grown, artisanal products that nourish bodies while honouring God. We believe that food is more than sustenance, it's a gift, a blessing, and an opportunity to practice biblical stewardship of the land.

Our Vision

God has planted a vision in our hearts: to transform First Fruits from an urban homestead into a destination farm experience. By 2030, we dream of having our own property with a farm-to-table coffee shop, farm stall, and spaces for workshops, retreats, and community gatherings.

But today, we're faithfully stewarding what God has given us - our small growing space, our recipes, our customers, and every opportunity to serve. As Proverbs 31 reminds us, we consider each field carefully and work vigorously with strong arms.
